Airport

The Charlottesville-Albermarle Regional Airport is located approximately twenty minutes from downtown Charlottesville and the University of Virginia. The airport is serviced by the following carriers: Delta, Northwest, United Express and U.S. Airways Express. A list of ground transportation providers (including rental cars, hotel shuttles and taxi services) may be found here. With tip, the one-way trip by taxi into Charlottesville usally costs around $20.

Some conferees may wish to fly into the Richmond International Airport, the Washington Dulles International Airport, or the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.  Generally, flights into these airports are less expensive than those into Charlottesville. Richmond is 73 miles, Dulles 103 miles, and Regan 113 miles from Charlottesville. Rental cars are available at each of these locations for the drive to Charlottesville.

Train

Two trains — the Crescent (New York to New Orleans) and the Cardinal (New York to Chicago) — stop daily at Charlottesville’s Amtrak station, which, is about a half-mile from the University.   Reservations may be made at the main Amtrak website.  The Amtrak station code for Charlottesville is CVS.  There is also Greyhound bus service from Washington, D.C.

Lodging

We have reserved blocks of discounted rooms at the following area hotels: The Courtyard Marriot / University Medical Center (434-977-1700, $149.00/night), The Omni Charlottesville Hotel (434-971-5500, 119.00/night), and The Hampton Inn and Suites Charlottesville, at the University (434-923-8600, 113.00/night).  In all three cases, the discount code, which must be provided in order to secure the special rates, is "Online Humanities Scholarship."  Rooms feature either one king bed or two double beds; all rooms have free high-speed wireless and are non-smoking.  Reservations must be made by December 31 in order to qualify for the discounted rate.
